The “unity candle” is one of the most common rituals done at weddings. It is designed to represent the joining of two separate lives into one. The flames combine with the brighter, stronger light representing the love, strength ,and commitment of the couple.
The lighting of wedding unity candles is considered to be one of the most beautiful parts of a ceremony. Often, the unity candle ceremony involves the parents or celebrant lighting the individual candles before the ceremony.
When the ceremony calls for it, the celebrant moves aside, the couple step up and each takes a tapered candle, lighting the center “unity” candle together.
